Forgiveness

I haven’t blogged in a long time and need to not let life get in the way and just blog. That said here we go.

I was talking to a brother in Christ the other day and we were talking about being able to forgive his spouse for something and how he was having a hard time offering that forgiveness to his wife. As we talked I could see him going from hurt to anger and back again. I took a deep breath and asked God to give me the words to speak.

After a brief moment of silence I began to speak the word that God had given me for this brother, I reminded of the story of the prostitute and how they brought her to Jesus spewing out the law and how she should be stoned for her adultery. Jesus gave the mob one instruction and that was that he who was with out any sin cast the first stone. All of her accusers dropped their rocks and walked away.

In marriages today we seem to hold on to the hurts and in some way or form use that hurt to punish our spouse, because they deserve it. This causes major tension and things will not get any better. Hence that is what Christ teaches us, we need to give that same forgiveness that we receive from God. It is in that forgiveness that the healing begins. We should lay down our stones because, how can we cast our stones when the anger that we are misusing is a sin in of itself.

So pray that God works in your life to give you strength to put down your stone and strengthen your marriage teaching you to give the same forgiveness that we are offered.
